Ming Bao
About This Spot
Walking up to Ming Bao in Glastonbury, you’re greeted by the steady rhythm of a local favorite doing what it does best—a go-to spot for those afternoons and evenings when you want something familiar, comforting, and thoughtfully prepared. The place hums with quiet energy, a steady flow of neighbors and families swinging by to pick up their meals, each dish nestled carefully for the journey home. Though the dining room is no longer open, the atmosphere remains warm and welcoming, a subtle backdrop to the ritual of grabbing a bite that feels like a small, everyday celebration.
There’s an unspoken care that goes into every order here, reflected in how the takeout is packaged and presented—warm, fresh, and thoughtfully arranged to avoid the sogginess that so often plagues Chinese takeout. This attention to detail extends beyond the food and service; it feels like Ming Bao is quietly woven into the daily lives of Glastonbury locals, from office workers on lunch breaks to families ordered up dinners shared around their own tables.
The menu pulses with familiar flavors that evoke both tradition and comfort. It’s not just about what’s available, but how the flavors come together in ways that feel both classic and personal—the subtle crispness of freshly cooked vegetables glistening in garlic sauce, the nuanced balance between tangy and sweet that dances lightly on the palate, or that warming, soulful broth resting in a bowl of wonton soup. Each bite feels considered, like a small moment crafted for ease and satisfaction, a comforting pause in a busy day.
In a time when many places have had to shift and adapt, Ming Bao stands out for maintaining the quality and friendliness that keep people coming back. There’s a human smile behind the counter, a familiar face who knows your name or your usual order, and a sense that the rhythms of the neighborhood still pulse just through the bags handed over the counter. It’s a quietly dependable spot, where the love of good food and good service quietly shines through.

Overall the food was good the rice had a flavorful taste to it, the chicken wings were nice and crispy and they put them in a nice bag which keeps them warm and they did not get soggy by the time hubby got home. Egg rolls were good too and not greasy which I really appreciate it. The general Tso’s was good too on the sweater side. My husband also said the service was excellent also they were very warm and attentive! The only reason I don’t give them a 5 is because the Lo mein did not have a lot of flavor and the noodles were a little too thick for my liking but other then that everything was good!

Best Chinese food in glastonbury. Very friendly staff. Quick service. No longer offer dine in service since covid 19. But the quality of the food has not been impacted. Nice location as well

We have been eating here ever since it opened. They only do takeout now because of Covid but the place is always “bumping” as the kids say. There is always a stream of people coming in to pick up takeout - workers on their lunch to parents bringing home dinner. Whenever there is a power shortage you can bet that they will be especially busy. The food is your standard Chinese takeout fare. There is nothing too exotic on the menu but you can find all the usual favorites that most people like. And the prices are incredibly good. In fact, often my wife and I will buy two each of the luncheon specials, having one for lunch and saving the other for dinner. With each other luncheon specials comes with an option of white or pork fried rice, eggroll or soup. it is a family run operation and the staff there are extremely friendly, especially Jimmy who seems to be the head guy. My guess is that they are doing better now with just take out them before when they had table service.

Stopped by this place twice recently. Both times I was pleased with the service and the quality of the food. Prices are a little high, but the food was fresh and very tasty, so well worth the extra few bucks spent, compared to where I go normally. Highly recommend the Beef with broccoli and General Tsos chicken!

I’ve been a loyal customer for about 3 years as they are one of the better Chinese food restaurants in the area. We love their general tso tofu, sesame tofu, kung pao chicken, hunan chicken (extra spicy), and vegetable lo mein. Their dumplings and egg rolls are also quite good. My partner likes their chicken fried rice. Some dishes we request to have extra sauce as while the dishes are always flavorful, they sometimes are a bit dry for our preference (especially if you’re planning on having leftovers).

This is by far the best Chinese food we have ever had! We had an extra treat also that everyone there was very friendly! Everything was also very clean. We gave it five stars for everything except the atmosphere, because you cannot eat in side. We will be back!
